TRM Helps Teach BGC Club Members To Fish

TRM helps Teach BGC Club Members to Fish

Rick Miller, President of TRM Construction and his management team recently made a surprised visit to the Boys & Girls Clubs Ken Pruitt Unit.  The group brought several pieces of fishing gear and demonstrated to the kids proper techniques for successful fishing.

The visit was part of the activities surrounding this year’s Fishing for Futures fishing tournament to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County.  Rick Miller, one of the creators of the event and his team have spent countless hours working on the event.  The tournament has more than doubled in size from year one-to-year two.  It’s a great event that combines fishing, boating and club members.

“We created this event to provide kids with an opportunity they may not otherwise have.  There is no age limit on fishing.  Once they learn how to do it, they will be able to enjoy fishing their entire lives,” stated Miller.

The 2nd Annual Fishing for Futures Tournament was originally scheduled to run August 31.  Unfortunately, due to hurricane Dorian, it was postponed until September 14.  It includes inshore and offshore fishing teams along with a variety of free kids activities at the Manatee Center in Ft. Pierce.  Tours of the Center, face painting, Sheriff’s K-9 demonstration, Fire truck display, activities by the Children’s Museum, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Marine Ocean Academy along with others and giveaways makes this a very unique event.  In addition, Club members who have never fished before, will be selected to spend a day on the Lady Chris, deep sea fishing.

Fishing teams, sponsors, vendors and the entire community are encouraged to support the Fishing for Futures tournament.  To enter your boat in the offshore or inshore fishing tournament, join us as a sponsor or to sign up as a vendor, please contact Dawn Knupp at (772) 460-9918 x 107 or dknupp@bgcofslc.org.
