TRM Construction Joins Mentoring Group to Benefit Students

TRM Construction has joined the student mentoring program created by the Boys & Girls Clubs and Education Foundation of St. Lucie County. The program was created to help introduce students to the local business community and future career opportunities.

“We are excited to be part of this great initiative,” said Rick Miller, President of TRM Construction. “We will be working with 10-15 students. Our goal is to provide them with a simple overview of the business, take them through a sample project, review architectural drawings and visit a job site.”

The program is called the STAR Scholars & Workforce Readiness and was created in partnership with the Florida Prepaid College Foundation. It is designed to help struggling students of need, graduate from high school and prepare for the workforce.

Each student will learn exactly what it takes to excel in their chosen field. They will gain valuable on-the-job training, interact with business owners and staff and position themselves for a bright future.

A recent study conducted by the Economic Development Council (EDC) identified several skill sets local employers look for (in) their new hires. Motivation, problem solving, time management, critical thinking and oral communication are important skills that must be mastered by young people to improve their employment opportunities. The mentors will work with the students to develop these skills and more.

Established in 1991, TRM Construction Management, with offices in Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, is a General Contractor that specializes in construction management of commercial construction and restoration projects. They have completed numerous commercial construction, re-construction and restoration projects nationwide totaling over $150 Million.

Additional information about the mentoring program will be available through St. Lucie Public Schools, St. Lucie Education Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. Businesses who are interested in participating in the program are asked to contact Thom Jones at (772) 429-5505 or Will Armstead at (772) 460-9918.
